- Lidars do not measure in a single point but rather whithin a probe volume. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the function characterising the pulse shape defines the probe volume whithin which the lidar is measuring. Therefore, the pulse duration directly impacts lidar estimations, since higher pulse durations give rise to longer probe volumes.
