Rayleigh length  
DEFINITION
Distance, from the beam waist in the propagation direction, where the area of the beam section is increased by a factor of 2, or the radius is increased by a factor of the squared root of 2. The Rayleigh length is used to characterise the probe volume and corresponds to the half of the probe length. It also can be defined as half of the full-width half-maximum (FWHM) of the weighting function characterising the probe volume. Englisch
